FIFA issued a statement late Tuesday night confirming an investigation in Uruguay striker Luis Suarezs actions in his teams 1-0 win over Italy. During the match, Suarez appeared to bite Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini on the shoulder. "FIFA can confirm that disciplinary proceedings have been opened against the player Luis Suarez of Uruguay following an apparent breach of art. 48 and/or art. 57 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code during the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil match Italy-Uruguay played on 24 June 2014," the statement read. "The player and/or the Uruguayan FA are invited to provide with their position and any documentary evidence they deem relevant until 25 June 2014, 5pm, Brasilia time." Article 48 of the code is entitled "Misconduct against opponents or persons other than match officials," while Article 57 is called "Offensive behaviour and fair play" and states that "Anyone who insults someone in any way, especially by using offensive gestures or language, or who violates the principles of fair play or whose behaviour is unsporting in any other way may be subject to sanctions." Liverpools Suarez has already been suspended twice for biting an opponent in his career. As a member of Ajax in 2010, Suarez bit the shoulder of PSVs Otman Bakkal and received a two-game suspension from his club and an additional five-game ban from the Royal Dutch Football Association. In April of 2013, Suarez received a 10-match ban for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic. In between to the two biting bans, Suarez received an eight-match ban after being found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra in October of 2011. With Tuesdays victory, Uruguay advanced to the knockout round and will meet Colombia on Saturday. After a late-race caution for an accident involving Tayler Malsam, John Wes Townley and Justin Jennings, Busch gave up the lead when he pitted for four tires. German Quiroga opted not to pit and took over the top spot. Busch ran in ninth for the restart but quickly moved to the front and was attempting to pass Quiroga for the lead before the seventh and final caution came for an incident involving ThorSport Racing teammates Jeb Burton and Johnny Sauter. The caution set up a green-white-checkered finish. Busch immediately passed Quiroga for the lead following the last restart. On the final lap, Quiroga spun out and backed it hard into the wall after his Red Horse Racing teammate, Timothy Peters, bumped into him.
